2025 Winter Delta Challenge

A shiny idea bulb

Today I am announcing the opening of our new Delta Challenge, the latest instalment in our Greek programs.

What is the Delta Challenge, you ask?

It is a learning opportunity, a chance to try something different or experiment with a different writing style and get feedback while you’re doing it. Each challenge will have different requirements – styles of writing, plot beats, story techniques – to help you grow and learn as writers.

Our Delta Challenge is open to everyone. The only requirement is that every person who submits is required to provide constructive feedback on at least three challenge entries submitted by others.

We are aiming to do one Challenge each season. As winter is on its way out, this will be the 2025 Winter Delta Challenge.

Techniques and Styles Challenge Requirements:

  • POV & Tense: Third Limited, past tense.
  • A tone shift. Use the contrast between descriptive language vs minimal language to portray a shift in tone during the piece.
  • Dialogue exchange: use dialogue to tell the story. Include several lines of back and forth dialogue. Try not to use any speech tags or action sequences. Think Hills Like White Elephants.
  • Foreshadow a misunderstanding that is obvious on a second read through.

Optional Prompts:

  • Scarves
  • Incorrect food/beverage order

Submission requirements:

  • Due Date: September 5th
  • Feedback Due Date: September 23rd (Winter’s End)
  • Word limit: 5,000 words
  • Format:
    • 12 pt Times New Roman
    • Double spaced
    • At least .5 paragraph indents
    • PDF
  • Create a thread in the #share-writing channel of our Discord server, titled “25 Winter Delta – [Story Title]” with the tag Delta Submission
